About the role

Support the Next Generation of Chefs: Become a Food Technician!

Are you passionate about food, nutrition and practical learning? Do you enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and supporting young people as they develop valuable life skills in the kitchen?

Vision for Education is excited to be working with a welcoming secondary school in Northumberland, who are looking to appoint a Food Technician to support the Design & Technology department. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a passion for food and organisation to play a key role in supporting practical food lessons. Opportunities may include short-term, long-term or ongoing placements depending on the needs of the school.

About the Role

As a Food Technician, you will support the delivery of Food Technology lessons by ensuring practical sessions run smoothly and safely. You will play an important role behind the scenes, preparing ingredients, organising equipment and helping maintain a safe learning environment for students.

Working closely with the class teacher, you will help students gain hands-on experience in cooking and food preparation while ensuring all practical activities are carried out safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Preparing ingredients, equipment and resources for practical food lessons

  • Supporting teachers and students during practical cooking sessions

  • Maintaining a safe and hygienic food preparation environment

  • Monitoring stock levels and ordering ingredients and supplies when required

  • Cleaning and maintaining kitchen equipment and workspaces after lessons

  • Ensuring health and safety procedures and food hygiene standards are followed at all times

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you should have:

  • Experience working in a kitchen, catering, food preparation or school environment

  • A good understanding of food hygiene and health & safety practices

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks

  • A positive attitude and willingness to support both staff and students

  • A passion for working in an educational environment

A Food Hygiene Certificate would be desirable but is not essential.

What We Offer

  • Excellent daily rates, paid through the PAYE system

  • A guaranteed pay scheme, subject to availability

  • Access to social and networking events

  • Pension contributions

  • Access to Continuous Professional Development (CPD) to support your career growth

  • A dedicated consultant committed to supporting you in your role

Seize this exciting opportunity to support practical learning and help students develop essential life skills. Join Vision for Education and become an important part of a thriving school environment.
